I began my sailing career as a member of my college sailing team. My early experiences on the water gave me an appreciation for weather’s direct relationship to personal safety. Over time, I aspired to become a liveaboard sailor and licensed captain. By that point, my experiences sailing in rough weather led to my belief that to be a proficient sailor and trusted captain, I needed to improve upon my ability to gather, interpret and respond to weather information. In response to that belief, I began to work toward acquiring a breadth and depth of weather knowledge. In the process of learning more about meteorology, I developed an enthusiasm for the science, which I am now pursuing via formal academic study.
